Today is our last morning in Pisa and we head to the aeroporto at 10:30 to take the bus to Siena. Pisa has been wonderful. Antonio, who has been in charge of arranging our activities while here has done an excellent job. From the private tour of the Leaning Tower with an English speaking guide to the visit to Lazzio's Costume Exhibit that he requested be held over so we could see it. He has gone above and beyond to provide us with the most entertaining, educational, and exciting visit possible. Our host family too has been just wonderful. Gianluca and Ciara seem to understand how very busy we have been and last night after a delicious veal stew with risotto and fabulous spring greens, Gianluca took us on a tour of the rest of the house to look at pictures of their family. We ended up walking through his apartment that has a door connecting to our bedroom. And then he said, "Bueno sera" and we knew that it was time for bed. I will miss my new family, their gracious hospitality, and quirky senses of humor. And the dogs who seem to understand my attempts at Italian dog talk.
As I sit here at my little window using the gardener's wireless, the birds are busy chirping and singing these beautiful songs. Even on this overcast and rainy day, I can see the fields and the beautiful Sycamore tree at the end of the drive and I am struck by how much is resembles the Eastern Shore (in part because it is cloudy enough that I can not see the mountains or hills). The land is beautiful and soft and lush.
And onward we go to Siena.
